ENGLISH GRADUATE PROGRAM – GENERAL INFORMATION

The English Graduate program (PPGI) at Universidade Federal de Santa Catarina (UFSC) is a pioneer in Brazil when it comes to research related to the English language.

PPGI offers an excellent opportunity for those interested in obtaining a Masters or a Doctoral degree in one of the two areas:

  • Language Studies
  • Cultural and Literary Studies.

PPGI is one of the earliest graduate programs at UFSC, a public university located in the south of Brazil. As any public university in Brazil, PPGI charges no fees or tuition, and it is often able to offer scholarships to the Master and Doctoral students, thanks to the support of important Brazilian funding agencies – CAPES and CNPq. Furthermore, many of our students choose to work in the language service courses at the university and receive a research grant for this purpose.

The program currently has seven research tracks, as follows:

Language Studies Research Tracks:

  • Language and Cognition
  • Learning and Teaching
  • Discourse and Translation Studies

Cultural and Literary Studies Research Tracks:

  • Literatures in English
  • Theoretical and Cultural Intersections

We welcome applications from both national and international students.
